Two Sides of the Same Coin
Tails is about how fantasy draws inspiration from reality.
Authors reference current science to write science fiction or speculative fiction. Authors also borrow from real world events to write stories with a political lean, or just stories in general. (Shown with the science articles behind the mirror and the newspaper clippings on the left wall.) The ice cavern in the shadow and the water pattern on the ceiling also play into this.
The morning sky behind the mirror is a reference to the idiom, head in the clouds.
The butterflies on the floor are an allusion to the Mexican myth where the Monarch butterfly migration around November 1st brings back the souls of the dead, this comes from the Aztec belief where the spirits of the deceased would manifest as butterflies. (A real world phenomenon explained by a myth.)
